Halloween Family Traditions
Scary Dinner
The kids have come to expect something silly to eat on Trick-or-Treat night. I think it’s fun to do something special before we go out in our costumes asking for treats. Here are some of the dinners we’ve made over the years.
Trick-or-Treat
Halloween wouldn’t be the same without some trick-or-treating. We go out every year in my mother-in-law’s neighborhood so she can walk around with us. On years when one of the kids is sick and can’t come she will carry an extra bag just for them and collect goodies to send home to them. By the time we come back it’s chilly and dark and all of us are ready to rest our weary feet. One year, I made the mistake of wearing these super cute pirate boots that had a bit of a heel on them and by the end of the night my poor feet were screaming to get out of them.
It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown
After we get home and go through the candy to make sure nothing nefarious lurks in their treat bags, we put on our PJ’s, Halloween themed preferably, and settle down to watch It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown. I grew up watching this every year around Halloween and when I had kids I continued the tradition. When the kids were younger we would just hope to catch the annual airing on TV but one year we missed it so luckily I was able to find it on Amazon Prime. Now I don’t have to worry about rushing around to get everyone in their jammies and settled down.
