Making a Tutu Basket

by | Apr 8, 2019 | Being Crafty

Today I will give a brief tutorial on making a tutu basket. This basket could be used for storage or giving in any girly situation but I used it as a baby shower gift. I had seen them before but as I was looking for ideas i kept seeing these pop up. I wanted the gift to look super special and in this basket it was certainly an eye catcher.

I picked up a laundry basket at the dollar store along with some white tulle.  I found 2 different colors of pink tulle at  the local fabric shop. Although, it’s difficult to tell the light pink from the white. I cut the tulle into 2 foot lengths. Here, I fold each length in half and pull the ends through the loop around the rim. To make the tutu full enough I had to place a piece at each opening as well as around each upright.

When I was finished I couldn’t just throw the gifts in there so I laid the quilt across the bottom and draping over the side. To give it a little more pizzazz I took the smaller gifts and tucked them in tissue paper. To get this effect, take 3 sheets of tissue paper, lay the first one down then lay the second and third ones on top of the first at slight angles.

I like to take small groupings of gifts and put them together. Pull the tissue paper up around the items and place them in the basket. Here the basket is filled with some little gifts as well as my Sweet Girly Baby Quilt.

Of all the things I’ve searched for, I had yet to find anything that was couch like for a headboard bench. I have to say it took me a while to get this figured out but I’m quite pleased with the results.
