Stromboli Braid Recipe

by | Nov 28, 2018 | Let’s Eat!

Ok, so I’ve been a bit busy and haven’t had time to post like I want to but hopefully this one will make up for it LOL.  This is a recipe that my husband came up with when he ran across a pack of deli meat that had been marked down. Of course we had to make a Stromboli.

You should probably know that I sold Pampered Chef for a couple years a while back so I’ve pulled some of my cooking techniques from them and this is one of them.  We have done this as a ring as well but this time we did this as a braid. You can get away with just using one of the crescent roll sheets as long as you roll it out enough.

This time when we made it we were cutting it close to the wire trying to decide what to make for a church potluck. I said hey what about that Italian ring thing you made a couple weeks ago? Although, rings don’t travel well so instead let’s make it a braid.

I’m using a bar pan but you can use a cookie sheet.  I roll it out to the edges and cut roughly 1 inch by 3 inch strips along the long edges. No, I never quite get them even lol, but I do count them to make sure I have the same amount on each side.

Next we add the filling. We start with the meats and the peppers. Here we use some pepperoni, salami and other Italian meats. We add some red onions, olives and banana peppers next and then it’s all covered with shredded Italian cheese blend and some homemade Italian dressing.

Then I bring up each pair of dough strips giving each a half twist before crossing the ends over each other.  Repeat with each pair then fold up each end to close the end of the dough package. After that, I coat the whole thing with more of that Italian dressing. It bakes at 350 degrees for 25 minutes. When we baked these I did notice that the oil ran off a bit so it might be a good idea to make this in something that has a lip.

Stromboli

  • Servings: 6
  • Difficulty: easy
  • Print

1 pkg refrigerated crescent rolls or sheet
9 Slices Deli Pepperoni
7 Slices Old World Hard Salami
6 Slices Salami Calabrese
3 Slices Hot Capicola
1/2 – 1 cup Chopped Red Onion
1/4 cup Banana Peppers
1/4 cup Sliced Manzilla Olives
2 cups Shredded Italian Cheese
1/2 cup Italian Dressing

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Roll out the crescent dough to more or less fill your pan. Next cut roughly 1 inch by 3 inch strips along the long edges making sure you have an even amount on each side. Then you will fill the middle of the dough with the meat followed by the peppers onions and olives.

We then cover it all with the cheese and 1/4 cup of the Italian dressing. To make the braid we take the first 2 strips and give them a half twist before laying the ends over each other. Proceed to do this with the remaining strips and then fold up the ends of the dough package. To finish it off we take the last 1/4 cup of dressing and brush it over the entire braid.

Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes. Cut into segments and enjoy.
