Gel Nail Day!

by | Jul 10, 2018 | Beauty and Style

It’s nail day at my house so I’d better get busy. Once every three weeks I take off my gel polish and put on new. I’ve been doing this for a few years now and I’m sure I’ve saved a ton of money doing it myself.  I’ve had a lot of interest in how I go about doing it and what products I use so I thought I’d share these things with you here.

It’s a win for everyone, really.

First I start with some round cotton pads and these soak off cap clips. I cut the pads into quarters and wet them with the remover. It is possible to use nail polish remover but I’ve found that the soak off remover works better. Place one on each nail and put a clip on it.

You might need help getting the last couple on LOL. It took me quite some time to be able to put them all on by myself.

I let them soak for 20-30 minutes.  Then I scrape them with a scraping tool.  Very often I need to soak them again but for about 15 minutes.  Then I scrape again and move on to cleaning up. I sand, file and buff the nails to get them ready  for the next application of the gel. Also, I push back and trim the cuticles.

Before I add polish I use a nail surface cleanser that I apply with a lint free wipe or a paper towel. Then, I use a nail ph bond dehydrator.   Next I use the foundation base. For this and every following coat make sure you put some on the top of the nail to seal it. This is the first step to get cured with the lamp. I cure it for 2 minutes. From here on, I cure every individual coat for 2 minutes. Once I’m satisfied with the look, I use a top it off coat that I also cure for 2 minutes.

When the top coat is finished curing, I take a lint free wipe or a paper towel with some nail polish remover and wipe off the sticky residue.  The last thing I do is treat my cuticles with a nourishing cuticle oil. Voila! We’re done! Hold up! Can’t forget to take a pic to post of those beautiful nails!  LOL
