Making a Headboard Bench

by | Aug 6, 2018 | Woodworks

Hi guys!  Today I will be talking about this awesome headboard bench my husband made from an old twin size bed.  This was actually his Aunt Debbie’s childhood bed as well as being his. We had used the bed rails for another project, so we wanted to do something with the rest of it without having to throw it out.  I had seen a ton of these on Pinterest and thought this is a perfect solution.

It’s a win for everyone, really.

We started with stripping the bed of the paint.  Luckily, for it’s age, it only had one coat of brown paint.  He mortised the posts of the headboard to accept the footboard and used timber lag screws to hold it all together.
Next he built a frame and seat to go with it.  He intentionally set it low to accept the cushions I was making for it.

To finish it off he put Minwax Jacobean stain on it to disguise the different woods that the bed was made of.

If you would like to see the finished product with all its cushions please check out my post Making Cushions for a Headboard Bench.
