Reupholstering a Base Rocker

by | Aug 6, 2018 | Being Crafty

This base rocker first belonged to one of my aunts, then to my grandmother.  Years ago I reupholstered this base rocker in denim patchwork in a very boho style.  At the time I loved it and so did my kids with their snacks and juice.  After our move to a bigger house it was placed in the basement and forgotten.  So, about 15 years later, after the chair has set in the moist basement I decide it’s time to update this rocker again. I striped it down to the wood and removed the base that was completely worn out and replaced it with a swivel/glider base.

I used a Webbing Stretcher and a Pneumatic Stapler to apply the Elastic Webbing to the chairs.  I was working on both these chairs at the same time and you can see the finished caned chair on it’s own post.

Next I added foam for the seat and back and covered that in batting.

Next I added the fabric.  For the top of the  back I used tack strip from a roll and staples. For the sides of the back I used metal tack strips with plastic sleeves.
